The world of sports mirrors how children can play the game
of school and life. They say that active kids do better in school. Sports also
provide kids with the opportunity to learn critical thinking and
self-discipline as well as goal-setting and practicing leadership skills. These
skills all help build character and stick with a child throughout life. Sports
can be a life-changing experience for children; you never forget your first
trophy or significant win. Youth sport can help children develop personal and
social skills teaching them how to share and take turns as well as helping them
understand sportsmanship and appropriate behavior. Learning these skills are a
great way for kids to make friends. Sports teach children about time management
and balancing school with sports. Time management is a skill that will always be
needed. Sports can instill the
importance of hard work, teamwork, cooperation, and sacrifice. Sports teach
many life lessons, and they build confidence to overcome obstacles. Sports help
children learn about being defeated, and winning. Sports teach children to
believe and never give up. Children must learn that winning and losing are both
temporary, and that they can't give up or quit. Sports can be thought of as a positive
stress which comes from taking part in something that's enjoyable yet
challenging. Children need to learn to deal with stress in life and overcome those
situations to take on a challenge that will better them. Team sports also keep
children away from being involved in activities that they should stay away
from.
I plan on being a coach after I graduate so obviously sports plays a huge role in my life, as well as mine own children's. Sports were a big motivation for me in high school to do well and to keep my grades up. Sports can also be motivation to keep kids on their best behavior in class.
